Corporate Governance Leadership Skills (CGLS) - Director Education Program:
After successful two years of accrediting professionals through its Director Education Program (Board Development Series), PICG has revamped the program keeping in view upcoming challenges and requirements of all stakeholders.
The objective is to help the participants understand corporate governance and the value that good governance practices add. Given this, they can act as “agents of change”. To achieve this objective, PICG has developed Corporate Governance Leadership Skills (CGLS) - Director Education Program, which is a modular series of interactive workshops addressing the Chairmen, CEOs, Directors and senior management.
The program consists of five parts. Part I – IV will have six-hour pre-reading material followed by six-hour practical session. Whereas, Part V will have one-hour pre-reading material followed by three-hour practical session. For each part (except part V) participants will have to take assessments after going through the reading material first and then only can proceed to practical sessions of one day each. Part V is a half-day board simulation exercise based on the case study that runs through the entire program. After completion of the program, there would be a comprehensive assessment based on discussions in practical sessions, which would complete the requirement for certification.
The course is equivalent to our former director education program, Board Development Series (BDS). In recognition of BDS’s significance and relevance, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) directed and accordingly, Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) made an amendment in the Listing Regulations whereby, “It will be mandatory for all the directors of the listed companies to have certification under “The Board Development Series” program offered by the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance. Provided that at least one director shall be required to have such certification up to June 30, 2011 and thereafter, every following year minimum one director on the Board shall acquire the said certification under this program”.

Board Development Series
Board Development Series (BDS) - Director Education Program:
As corporate governance is crucial to the development of companies and the economy at large and as directors are ultimately responsible for corporate governance, PICG encourages all directors to remain up-to-date with best practices and advocates the pursuit of continuous professional development. To achieve this objective, PICG offers Board Development Series (BDS) - Director Education Program, which is a modular series of interactive workshops addressing the Chairmen, CEOs, Directors and senior management. The BDS comprises 24 modules of 2 hours each, delivered in four parts with each part lasting two days, leading to certification.
In recognition of program’s significance and relevance, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) directed and accordingly, Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) made an amendment in the Listing Regulations whereby, “It will be mandatory for all the directors of the listed companies to have certification under “The Board Development Series” program offered by the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance. Provided that at least one director shall be required to have such certification up to June 30, 2011 and thereafter, every following year minimum one director on the Board shall acquire the said certification under this program”.
